’s Middags al over een protestdemonstratie gestruikeld en ‘s avonds op een fenomeen gestuit. Op een moment dat in Nederland de gordijnen sluiten, TV’s uitgaan en mensen op een oor gaan of daar aan denken, is het leven in Valencia nog in volle gang. Lopend langs een grote straat, hoorde ik, een blok verderop een enorm geroezemoes, in de Jardin del Turia. Duizenden mensen aan het eten, drinken, praten. Zo’n overweldigend geluid, zo stads en toch ook vreedzaam en rustgevend. Fenomenaal.
In the afternoon I stumbled upon a protest demonstration and in the evening I encountered a phenomenon. At a time when in the Netherlands, people close the curtains, switch off TVs and decide to turn in, life in Valencia is still in full swing. Walking along a major street, I heard a huge buzz in the Jardin del Turia. Thousands of people eating, drinking, talking. Such an overwhelming sound, so urban and yet peaceful and soothing. Phenomenal.
